  • Try a few synonyms to find more articles

    If you search for materials on “incineration”, try such synonyms as “waste-to-energy”, “energy from waste”, “thermal treatment”, and even “WtE”, “EfW”, and “burn” too. “Anaerobic digestion” is sometimes called “biogas” or “biomethanation”. Useful data on “source separation” may be found in documents on “waste segregation” or “curbside recycling”. Try all possible synonyms to maximize your chance of finding what you look for!

  • Need this library in Spanish, Portuguese or Chinese?

    The “Select language” button on the upper right side of the page can turn the whole site (user interface) into Spanish, Portuguese or Chinese automatically. The machine translation may not be so readable, but we hope it helps to navigate the site more easily. Let us know if you want us to add other languages in the choice.   • Studies that have comprehensively reviewed gasification, pyrolysis and plasma in-cinerators have found that they provide little to no benefit when compared to mass burn incinerators, while being an even riskier investment.  The core impacts of all types of incinerators remain the same: they are toxic to public health, harmful to the economy, environment and climate, and undermine recycling and waste reduction programs.

  • A comprehensive report which tells us everything we need to know about Biomass Electricity from the US perspective: its legal context, public health and environmental impacts, jobs and economic impacts, and various types of subsidies supporting this dirty industry.

  • An academic article from Spain detected statistically significant cancer mortality in the vicinity of incinerators and hazardous waste facilities. It analyzed the risk of dying of cancer related with specific industrial activities at a national level, and highlighted the excess risk observed in the vicinity of these facilities.

  • Find this great achievement by one of the poorest communities in Chile. This case study shows how the municipality of la Pintana took this innovative approach in 2005 by focusing on recovery of vegetable waste. With little investment, the new system achieved great cost savings and waste reduction.
